Lovin' it!

I know that most of my entries appeal to my technical interests. ... on this lovely Monday I thought I'd change it up a little!

Do you remember those McDonald's commercials where they would sing one of their many famous slogans, "I'm lovin' it!" ?  Weren't those obnoxious after awhile?  Well they were for me, but probably because I don't eat fast food.  Although I do smile a bit when I sing the tune from the commercial, "baa da ba ba baaa".

This entry really has nothing to do with McDonald's but about Monday morning attitudes.  Remember the movie Office Space, or Cubiculos de la oficina in Spanish, and that feel good message "Aww, does someone have a case of the Mondays?".

I believe it was Eleanor Roosevelt that said something to the tune of, "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."  We have the power of our own thoughts and emotions.  Sure there are many influences that exist that may affect us, but none of those influences can take effect unless we allow them too.  We control our attitude!

The case of the Monday's may very well be because you don't enjoy your job or you overly enjoyed your weekend and now the return to the daily grind has you a little down.  Why though do the little things that people do seam to amplify our emotions.

In Office Space, Peter wants to go crazy when the overly excited waiter asks him if he has a case of the Mondays.  The McDonald's commercials seam to make quite a number of people not only hungry but also happy watching 'normal' people enjoying their day out in the beautiful sun with their friends, seemingly screaming "I'm Lovin' It!"  What did it for me today was a daily disc jockey taking calls from listeners asking them what they were "Lovin'".  Two of the callers really touched me, I'm not completely sure why they did but I'll share their stories anyway.

The first caller I heard while driving to the office was a woman in her late 20's who called to say that she was just absolutely lovin' her boyfriend.  It wasn't really what she was saying but how she was saying it and the emotion in her voice while she answered the few questions the DJ asked her about the man she was lovin'.  With her playful answers I could physically feel my smile beginning to widen during my 6:00 a.m. commute!

The second caller I actually can't remember because I was already thinking, "Wow!  This is such a great segment, they should do this everyday."  Then I remembered the McDonald's commercial and thought that the repetition could become as annoying as the Head-On commercials!  Even just saying the words Head-On, it's tough not to dream up the rest of that commercial, which I refuse to make note of on my blog!

The third and last caller took the cake!  A 40-something mother called to say that she was just lovin' her daughter.  With out missing a beat she followed up with "She's such a little sh%t, but I love her!"  That comment gave me enough fuel that this Monday was going to be a wonderful day and my mood switched to a carpe diem mentality!  The woman continued and said that her 20 year old daughter was just such an amazing person and she would just completely lovin' her that day!  It just about brought a tear to me eye  :,)

I've noticed a trend in the feel good advertising including a commercial using a smile as a butterfly effect of good deeds that sweeps a city like New York.  Maybe it has to do with our nations concerns about their financial future or the changing of the guard when it comes to our commander in chief.. I just know I like it!  I suppose I can be a little cliché and say I'm Lovin' It!
